About Swing Dance
Hello everybody, my name is Frank Wiessner, I'm from Frankfurt am Main, Germany and I live in the wonderful Japanese city Fukuoka. I enjoy swing dance since eleven years and teach for seven years in Japan, first two years in Kanoya and now in Fukuoka-City. We teach Charleston and Lindy Hop.
What’s Swing Dance?
Charleston & Lindy Hop are American Swing Dances from the 1920ties to 1940ties. The focus is on the fun of rhythm and harmony, creativity, exchanging ideas and the interpretation of the music. These dances are sportive and give many space for funny and silly individual stylings.
Swing music is a kind of Jazz music which was played from the 1920ties to the 1940ties. The most prominent bands and musicians of this time were Fletcher Henderson, Charlie Barnet, Count Basie, Les Brown, Duke Ellington, Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Woody Herman, Harry James, Gene Krupa, Jimmie Lunceford, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, Chick Webb, Brother Bones & His Shadows, Henry 'Red' Allen, Louis Prima, Fats Waller, Teddy Wilson, Barney Bigard, Django Reinhardt, Nat King Cole, Slim & Slam and many more.
Some famous Charleston musicians and bands are Louis Armstrong, Clarence Williams, Fats Waller, Jelly Roll Morton, Kid Ory, The Cats & The Fiddle, Pee Wee Russell, Bobby Hackett, McKinney's Cotton Pickers, Earl Hines, Red Nichols.
